Professor Alfred Haack celebrates his 40th Service Anniversary

Professor Alfred Haack has served STUVA now for over 40 years. On January 2nd, 1967, he began working for STUVA and has just commemorated his 40th service anniversary. Throughout this period he has served the organisation in various capacities: from 1973 to 1977, he was in charge of the department for construction technology; in 1977, he was appointed director and he has been executive board member since May 1995. His outstanding achievements particularly in the fields of waterproofing structures and fire protection in tunnels, his more than 200 specialist publications as well as more than 300 papers appearing at home and abroad have been instrumental in STUVA’s success thus helping it to attain international renown.

Prof. Haack has been a long-standing member of various working groups dealing with tunnelling including those on “Research”, “Maintenance” and “Underground Planning” of the International Tunnelling Association (ITA) as well as numerous working groups set up by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS), the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Research Association for Transport and Traffic Research (FGSV). Furthermore, he is actively engaged in various standardisation committees.

Prof. Haack has been the director of DAUB – the German Committee for Underground Construction Inc. since 1980.
