Honorary Members

The general assembly of the Research Association for Underground Transportation Facilities Inc. (STUVA) decided to appoint Prof. Manfred Bandmann to become an honorary member of the association. This appointment expresses gratitude for his many successful years of activity on behalf of the STUVA especially through his involvement on the Scientific Advisory Council and the board from 2001 till 2009.

Prof. Bandmann concentrated his endeavours first and foremost on industrial safety requirements. He initiated many current research projects relating to this field, which were executed by the STUVA with the support of the BG Bau.

Prof. Bandmann also actively fostered the work of STUVA through worldwide involvement in the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) as well as a number of major EU projects. Thanks to his activities he has assured that industrial safety enjoys the prominent position it deserves in underground construction thus contributing to protecting the lives and health of the labour force. He has disseminated the findings he obtained in numerous lectures at STUVA conferences and ITA congresses as well as in brochures and other publications thus ensuring their translation into tunnelling practice.

Apart from expressing its gratitude the general assembly also hopes to be able to welcome Prof. Bandmann often among its ranks in future as well. It wishes him health, personal fortune and all the best for the years ahead.
