50 Years of the STUVA Inc. 1960 to 2010 – The Past meets the Future
Following decades of successful work on behalf of underground construction and public transportation the STUVA celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010.
The jubilee conference will be held in the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf on June 17th and 18th, 2010. With this event the STUVA will be returning to its roots for STUVA’s story began on June 15th, 1960 when the association’s name was entered into the register of the municipal court in Düsseldorf. It will be a time for celebrations as well as deliberations after all it will not simply be a “normal” STUVA Conference.
The jubilee gathering will be divided up into the “Young Forum” and the three-part festive ceremony:
- At the “Young Forum” up-and-coming tunnellers will communicate something of the fascination exerted by tunnelling within the framework of a competition at which papers will be presented.
- The first part of the ceremony will be devoted to the “Future of Underground Construction” taking the entire spectrum of important spheres of influence into consideration.
- During the second part, which will be related more to the STUVA itself, conclusions from STUVA’s past will be drawn and at the same time the link with the important theme the future of energy provided.
- The final part of the event will be devoted to the “Present” and will examine in detail the largest construction project involving underground rail construction in Düsseldorf, the Wehrhahn Line.
The gala evening on the first day of the event is mainly designed to serve personal encounters and look back at the long and eventful 50 years of STUVA.
There will be no accompanying exhibition.
The call for papers for the “Young Forum” addressed to STUVA members resulted in a highly pleasing response so that a large selection of topical and interesting themes is available. At the same time high-category speakers will be available for the other sectors of the event. Through this selection of topics the STUVA once more wishes to emphasis its reputation for always being “abreast with the future”.
