Bursting Pressure Tests
Testing of plastic sealing membranes (PE, ECB, TPO, PVC) in bursting pressure trials in order to determine the maximum three-dimensional deformation (arching) in a fractured state, as well as tests to determine the effectiveness of various geotextile protective sheets.
Single Layer Shotcrete Construction Method
Experimental tunnel in Bochum for testing homogeneous single shell lined tunnel construction methods using dry and wet shotcreting methods as well as the composite construction method. The permanently effective sealing of homogeneous single shell lined shotcrete tunnels is problematic. This can be clearly seen by the white sintering strips.
Non-Destructive Test Procedures
Location of faults in a special fault detection wall with the help of georadar, multispectral analysis, and thermography with the aim of determining the application limits of non-destructive test procedures. The false colour image of the thermography photograph shows faults in the wall.
Waste Tip Testings
Tensile tests of plastic waterproofing membranes (PE, PVC, ECB, TPO) with and without restriction of the lateral extension, as well as tensile and shearing tests in combination with supporting and protective layers. The shearing area is 1000 mm x 500 mm. With the help of this test facility it is possible to test base seals of waste tips under near-practical conditions.
Trials to determine the spread of harmful substances (diesel fumes, explosion gases, dusts) for optimisation of the ventilation (ventilation of crown section, bank and ground section driving) as well as for testing measures designed to protect the workers.
Activation of the restoring forces of elastomer sealing profiles by pushing together tubbing samples in order to test the profile design. If the sealing profile is not correctly chosen, the concrete is damaged (cracks, spalling).
Large-scale Tests for Tunnel Segments
Testing of ring-shaped tunnel linings (max. height = 4 m, external diameter = approx. 10 to 15 m, max. load 1 000k N /m2) in order to determine deformation behaviour under various load conditions. The measured value recording equipment (approx. 550 measured value recorders) makes it possible to produce an instantaneous picture of the load and deformation state every second.
Trials with injection hoses for the sealing joints in concrete structures with polyurethane, cement suspension and acrylic resins. The aim is to show technical application limits, e. g. double injection with single-channel injection hoses.
Rock-Cutting Test Bed
The cutting of rock for testing cutting heads and cutter picks of various road headers and measuring specific dust emission from various types of rock. With the help of these trials it is possible to optimise the cutting tools from an economic and working safety point of view.
Testing of tyres, shock absorbers, road surfaces, expansion joints and roadway markings under extreme conditions (temperature range + 60 °C to - 30 °C, axle load 10 t, maximum speed 100 km/h) in order to be able to simulate high traffic loads in a short time.
