InREAKT honored as a flagship project for intelligent mobility

German Mobility Award 2017

The initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas" and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure have on June 28, 2017 awarded the German Mobility Prize to the project "InREAKT - Integrated Aid Response Chains to Increase the Safety of Public Transport" coordinated by the STUVA as an outstanding digital innovation for a safe mobility. State Secretary Dorothee Bär presented the award in a ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Transport in Berlin (fig. 1). InREAKT will provide an innovative digital solution to make mobility safer and more reliable. It is an interdisciplinary developed and IT-based system that will improve the emergency management in public transport in the future.

About the project InREAKT

Imagine you need urgent help at a stop or in the bus or train - and nobody notices it!

Violence, property damage and vandalism can make passengers feel uncomfortable or keeps them completely from using public transport, especially at night. And also employees of transport companies can get into safety-critical situations or medical emergencies. Effective emergency management is therefore very important in order to increase confidence in public transport. This is the aim of the InREAKT system, which was developed in a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The core idea is the IT-supported process of an integrated help response chain, which consists of recognizing a person in need, reporting a detected situation, communicating reaction forces and intervening at the event site. The project is based fully on digital technology: for example, an optical sensor system for detecting the situation (fig. 2), a software-based event management system with recommended actions, which supports the control center of the transport company, and a specially programmed employee app (fig. 3). All technical work was supported by interdisciplinary socio-scientific accompanying research to ensure acceptance by passengers.

InREAKT provides improved emergency management in public transport as well as increased sense of security through the development of integrated help response chains. The solution creates trust among passengers and employees and thus strengthens public transport. Now more partners are needed in practice to implement a pilot application and to further develop the system. Interested transport companies are kindly requested to contact www.inreakt.de via the contact form.
