ZPP Engineers and STUVA are planning new U5 East in Hamburg
The next major construction site in Hamburg casts its shadow, because from now on, the planning for the eastern section of the new subway line U5 begins. This construction phase alone will habe a tunnel section of more than 7 kilometers with five new underground stops and runs from Bramfeld in the east to City Nord. The planning is accompanied by an intensive dialogue with the citizens in the various parts of the city in order to provide information and suggestions from the residents.
The general planner contract for this section was signed at the beginning of July 2017 between the Hamburger Hochbahn and ZPP Ingenieure. In addition to other involved project partners, the STUVA ist undertaking the planning for sound and vibration protection in this partially densely built inner city area. The STUVAtec creates the fire protection concepts for the underground stops as well as the safety concept for the tunnels and carries out fire simulations, evacuation calculations and, if necessary, the dimensioning of smoke extraction and pressure ventilation systems. Planned start of the first construction phase is from 2021.
The overall project U5 with the subsequent expansion to the west is the most important urban development measure of the next decade for the ever growing Hanseatic city. In the fight against the traffic infarction, the project U5 will connect the most important traffic potential areas west and east of the Alster and existing large housing estates with the city center, every 90 seconds with fully automated subway operation. In the final state, the total route will be over 30 km and will be practically completely underground. Thus, the U5 will increase the current network length of Hamburger HOCHBAHN by one third.
