The Merowe dam on the Nile north of Karthum is an impressive 9.3 km long and up to 74 m high. It covers 60% of the electricity consumption in Sudan and at the same time serves for irrigation and flood protection. After the filling in 2009, STUVA carried out comprehensive consultations on site to optimize the watertightness of the dam.
