Innovative solutions for complex tasks
Performance, sustainability, environmental protection and cost-effectiveness play a central role in the construction of transport infrastructures. The STUVA therefore advances relevant technical developments, among other things when it comes to new processes and products in tunnel construction or innovative building methods in road building.
For this purpose, some of the world's unique large-scale testing facilities, such as test rigs for tubbings and a testing circuit are available. In addition, STUVA is also advising on special issues.

Tunnelling
- Performing of stress tests on large parts. Various force effects on highly stressend components (e.g. tubbing segments) can be simulated by means of tailor-amde hydraulic test equipment. Examples of stress tests already carried out:
- stiffness
- torsional rigidity

- shearing tests
- spalling tests
- friction tests
- large-scale tests (full segmental ring (tubbing) in scale 1:1)
- Development of new products and processes for mechanical and conventional tunnel construction as well as special foundation engineering

Waterproofing
- Advising and monitoring of water resistant concrete and surface sealing
