U3 Mexikoplatz Berlin

Closing the gap to the Krumme Lanke

The Berlin subway line U3 currently ends at Krumme Lanke subway station about 800 meters before the S-Bahn line S1 at Mexikoplatz station. Passengers are therefore forced to change to the bus for this short distance. Closing the gap between Krumme Lanke subway station and Mexikoplatz will lead to a much more attractive connection between the southwest of the city and the center.

STUVAtec's original brief was merely to provide advice on fire safety during the early planning stages. BVG (Berliner Verkehrsgesellschaft) soon decided to have STUVAtec carry out evacuation calculations, fire simulations and smoke extraction calculations with CFD simulation as part of the preliminary planning.

The next steps for the U3 network extension are an in-depth feasibility analysis, in particular with an examination of the transfer situation at the listed Mexikoplatz and a cost-benefit analysis. The Mexikoplatz subway station on the U3 line is initially planned as a terminus with an adjoining parking facility in the tunnel. In the future, the Mexikoplatz subway station is planned as a through station.
