2nd Forum on Tunnel Construction at RWTH Aachen University postponed again

The 2nd Forum Tunnel Construction at RWTH Aachen University, originally planned for September 2020 and then postponed to 18.06.2021, has to be postponed again due to corona. A new date has not yet been set for the event in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which was planned as the "farewell lecture" of the long-standing chair holder Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Ziegler, as it is currently difficult to predict when such a forum can be held safely again.

"We therefore do not want to set a new date at the moment, which we might then have to cancel again," says Prof. Ziegler, who retired six months ago, explaining the renewed postponement.

As soon as the pandemic situation permits reliable scheduling, however, a new date for the event will be set at short notice.

In autumn 2016, on the occasion of the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the first Forum Tunnel Construction took place at RWTH Aachen University on "Experiences and Lessons from Major Projects" with the accompanying exhibition "Historical Alpine Penetrations".

Five years later, it is high time for a new edition dedicated to another "historical" event: the farewell of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Ziegler, who retired at the end of September 2020 after more than 20 years of leading the fortunes of the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering in Civil Engineering and the Institute of Foundation Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Hydraulic Engineering.

The Tunnelling Forum is organised by the Chair of Geotechnics in Civil Engineering and the Society for the Promotion of Geotechnics in Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen e.V. under the auspices of STUVA e.V. and the Centre for German and International Construction and Civil Engineering Law CBTR e.V..

The contributions will be published in the Institute's series of communications.
