InnoTrans 2024 and International Tunnel Forum of the STUVA

The next InnoTrans in Berlin will take place from 24 to 27 September 2024.

One of the highlights of the InnoTrans Convention in 2024 will once again be the International Tunnel Forum, which has been organised by STUVA e. V. since 2008. The forum addresses current issues in the industry in a compact format. High-calibre experts will discuss cutting-edge issues relating to mobility and tunnelling with a knowledgeable audience. The forum accompanies the Tunnel Construction trade fair segment and is a highlight for industry insiders at InnoTrans. 

While on Wednesday, 25 September the focus will be on the key future topic of "Sustainability in tunnelling", on Thursday, 26 September the focus will be on "Current challenges in tunnelling".

The STUVA events will take place on both days from 2-4 p.m. in the CityCube Berlin, level 3, M8 and will be moderated by the Managing Director of STUVA e. V. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Roland Leucker.

 

Wednesday, 25.09.2024: Sustainability in Tunnelling

Preserving the natural foundations of life for current and future generations is an important social goal. This goal is to be achieved even if the demand for mobility, supply/disposal and the exchange of services and goods continues to rise. Infrastructure construction is therefore directly affected by this. The UN sustainability goals with their economic, ecological and social aspects must therefore also be taken into account when building new tunnels. Forward-looking design, the use of new materials and construction methods, the balancing of greenhouse gases and the demonstration of the advantages of underground solutions are essential. Outstanding examples of the realisation of sustainability goals in tunnel construction will be presented in four lectures and a subsequent discussion round at the forum:

Thursday, 26.09.2024: Challenges in Tunnelling

Challenges in Tunnelling Tunnelling has fascinated mankind for centuries: invisible beneath the surface, these structures reliably and inconspicuously fulfil their function. The Eupalinos Tunnel, built around 600 BC, is an early example of a complex and outstanding engineering structure. No less impressive is modern tunnel construction, which began with industrialisation and the invention of the railway in the 19th century and was characterised by an increasingly planned approach to the construction of tunnels at an already high level. Even today, the tunnels built back then still fulfil their purpose reliably and meet the need for efficient connections. But new, breathtaking tunnels are still being planned and built today. The technology now available and new materials are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in modern tunnelling to new, spectacular dimensions. Four exciting examples of this will be highlighted in the presentations and a subsequent discussion round:
